Black History Month 2011 in Los Angeles
The 1st Kentucky Derby winner Aristides was educated by African-American Ansel Williamson and rode to victory by African American jockey Oliver Lewis, among fifteen black jockeys in that race. More than all, 15 with the initial 28 Kentucky Derby were won by black jockeys and five ended up trained by black trainers. The primary African-American poet was Lucy Terry Prince. Her most popular poem was titled The Bar's Combat. It had been published by Lucy Terry Prince when she was just sixteen
