Musical Comedy and the Horrors of the First World War - The Arts Desk's Theatre Reviews

Two double bills by emerging young writers could be seen at the Double Feature of theatre shows at the National Theatre this week, with duty being the rather unfashionable theme. Prasanna Puwanarajah's Nightwatchman is sharply performed by Stephanie Street, but lacks a motive, while a doctor tries to do her job in a war that has no cause in Tom Basden's There is a War. Fatally lacking tension was DC Moore's The Swan, while Sam Holcroft's dystopian Edgar & Annabel was the most impressive
