While chinchilla cages should be enormous enough for your pet to run around in, chinchillas should ottherwise have time to exercise out of their cages every day too - if you are in a position to supervise them. Chinchillas as pets can get stressed when they feel they are being confined, because by nature they don't live in confined spaces. The stress of confinement can cause them to be anti-social and withdrawn. They may get irritated and start to bite their fur.
