Why Are Modern Horror Films So Bad?

I came from a period of the 50's, 60's and 70's horror films. They had a powerful story line, and were usually very dramatic and quite low on the graphic outline of gore and violence.

Today's films sometimes make it directly to video and the web where online marketing consultants strategize to make a fast sale before the critics pan the flick.

I am not drawn to today's generally gore fest films. The necessity for nihilistic violence is spread about too densely on the telly and cinema
